In the beginning, there was a bustling city. There are rumors that creatures who walked upon two legs resided there, much like the kingdom of today, living and growing together, celebrating wins and mourning losses, hunting and fighting and crafting. There is no solid evidence of the rumors, of course, just whispers of what once was. The history of the isle comes mostly from the mainland of Audrekar, home to Queen Loressa Atara Mavros (the lover and third parent of Keelan Galatas and Caelie Kyriake's litter) and the kingdom of Ivinait. There is a land bridge that connects the Isle of Kalera to Audrekar, that can sometimes be washed out when the tides are too high and the wet season too much. The reasoning for this is mostly logical, the water gets too high and covers the land bridge, although there are religious kingdom members who believe that it's due to the god's of the area being enraged.
Which is something they believe drove the original settlers away. Or wiped them out. There's proof of widespread death if you look closely enough, bone fragments in the soil, items left behind that have been scavenged from over time, the look of a city that wasn't quite finished yet. The city of Kostasra, where the kingdom of Rasende is located, sprawls a wide swath of land, formerly protected by tall stone walls now crumbling. The buildings, while falling apart, are stable enough that when Halvard Berghild stumbled upon the area, he decided it was a perfect place to start a kingdom. The founder of the kingdom came from Ivinait, given the blessing of Queen Loressa to offshoot and explore the lands, and stay if he so chose. He took very few with him, Keelan Caz Galatas - the father of Caelie's children and thus a friend of the kingdom Ivinait, Kiona Titus - an artisan with a skill for crafting weapons and handling herself in danger, Vavilon Dayn Petridis - a former personal guard to the Queen and a valued member of the kingdom turned guard for Caelie's children and their father, Azenfliel - the future duchess and a scout that he trusted to be able to help figure out the area, characterhere, and characterhere. With the array of allies, Halvard was confident to find a place of safety, a place in which others could find solace and call it their home. It would be naturally less chaotic and crowded than Ivinait, but they could hopefully etch out a peaceful existence.
It went off mostly without a hitch. with only some haphazard encounters, such as Kiona stumbling into a hole in Obridin Forest, discovering a small tunnel system that seemed fairly abandoned, or when they found Famicyre Lake and Keelan went to step in and realized the area they were in had a steep drop off underwater, unfortunately not before he had plunged into the cold water and had to be pulled out by Vavilon. Besides the minor inconveniences, they spent a considerable amount of time scouting the land, finding the edges of parts of it, seeing the Dastetha Swamplands and turning back, spotting Jeledran Beach in the distance, and eyeing the looming Sozulyn Mountains. It seemed as good a place as any, and Halvard did what seemed the best, he sent Vavilon - whom he believed most capable, to go back to Ivinait with Kiona to deliver the news and retrieve the others who had wanted to come - the Galatas offspring that Keelan had helped sire and their mothers, as well as a small collection of other kingdom members that had voiced their interest. Along the way, Caelie and Kiona were able to pass along the word of the newly established Kingdom, letting the message carry among traveling merchants and outsiders alike of this kingdom with a hopefully bright future.
